Raw Sounds took over the Electric Social venue in Brixton last night with a full on set of new music, comedy and spoken word, plus Raw Fire, big tunes from our in house DJ’s and guest performances from Principal and Dbliski. The place was packed and supporters of the cause helped out to make it a really successful event – and the best way to show the positive impact of the arts in mental health work. Thanks to all of you who came, danced, sang, got on down and made it such a great night!

The new ‘Other Voices’ performance project with the ENO kicked off last week with an introductory workshop for young musicians, performers and singers with the ENO staff and Raw workshop leaders. We will be running more sessions at Raw Material before Christmas and then the project steps up in January to work up towards the week long Easter half term project and performance. Check the website and this blog to see things shaping up.

Over the last few weeks we have been transforming the centre, refurbishing the production and office spaces, rewiring and installing new networks and equipment throughout. The whole project is being supported with by the Arts Council National Lottery Fund.
Bounce Back- a local organisation that helps people coming out of prison gain new skills, are pitching in decorating the whole building with welcome support from WATES. The new photovoltaic panels on the roof are now generating power- we just need a bit more sunlight please!
Somehow we have kept projects running throughout the dust, demolition and tangle of wiring.

Raw Fire are on the move again, performing on 28 November at Brixton Windmill, raising funds for Ebola, then down at the Bush Theatre Shepherds Bush on 13 December in the ‘Give A Gig’ line up with Little Mammoths EP launch party in support of Youth Music. They round this off with the end of year show at Raws’ ‘Breaking Bread’ event at Brixton East (15 December) alongside Nanci and Phoebe, New Orleans own Tony Wilson, Afro Manding drummers from the Gambia, the Factory, Monster Playground, Ego Ella May, D’VO and Nickbam and, coming up from the south of France, guitarist Bernard Margarit.
