A new piece inspired by Janacek’s opera JENUFA, created by ENO youth company in partnership with Raw Material and Brixton Youth Theatre.

An truly amazing production – achieved in only five days at the spacious studios in West Hampstead north London.  A cast of 50 young people came from all over London, including our own Brixton crew and members from our Instrumental Zone music project, with a Raw Material musician working alongside the ENO team.

The group were able to explore Janacek’s music and themes from the opera Jenufa – that explored the secrets we may keep and what happens when the truth is revealed, a pertinent topic at the present time- and to create their own original interpretations of the theme, to write, devise and perform. An incredible production and experience for these emerging young performers.

This is our third collaboration with the ENO and its just gets better each time!

This weekend will see our team back in Calais refugee camp -the ‘Jungle’, for the KITE FESTIVAL, our musicians and percussionists working alongside arial acrobatics with Help4 Refugee Children in Calais organisation. This will be leading up to week long residencies in the camp where we will be working in a local school and youth centre providing creative music making and performance activities for children and young people, leading up to an event in the ‘White Mountain’ venue.

This month, participants to our mental health programme Raw Sounds have been collaborating on a photography project with Photofusion.

Building a pop-up photo-booth in the park next door to Raw Material, participants have learnt skills in photography – using SLR cameras, screens and light reflectors to create a unique image. For the next two weeks, we will be heading to Photofusion’s high tech studio to edit these images, working with collage techniques to turn our photos into album covers for music produced during Raw Sounds sessions.

Watch this space for the results!
